SHDL#08 Mage

Pyrele, the Mage, is our third character-class. A mage-type character, efficient at engaging numerous mobs at once. Cleans up while helping allies, but can suffer when directly targeted.

Pyrele's classic fantasy archetype was all about damage, versatility and range, as normally mage-classes can deal obscenes amounts of damage to both single targets and crowds while applying all sorts of effect, at the cost of long casting times or fragility, so in order to balance her I decided to focus the design heavily on area damage and indirect damage, so that the power to nuke specific targets remains Sagara's specialty, while avoiding the trope of casting times to keep the game dynamic, leaving only less overall tankiness as a real weakness (and not too much since being made of paper and dependent on a party is also an annoying part of the design of this archetype that we're trying to fix) .

She ended up with a lot of ways to inflict damage while none are direct aim-to-nuke's, with enough crowd-control and sustain to survive on her own, while also having interesting ways to engage enemies and support allies.

Her first skill is Soul Warmth.

Pyrele summons a flame that orbits her for a while, damaging enemies and healing players on touch.

This is Pyrele's main source of damage, as well as her main form of support and sustain.

The flame orbits her loosely, allowing the player to kite it around and somewhat aim its trajectory, allowing for more targeted attacks or heals (including to herself).

Pyrele's second skill is Steam Pulse.

She emits a large wave that stuns and damages enemies around her.

Her primary defensive skill. Quick and simple, although not very powerful.

Useful to engage or disengage crowds.

Her third skill is Molten Pillar.

She channels a shield for a few seconds that instantly reflects any damage aimed at her during it.

Pyrele's get-out-of-jail-free card, can save her from though situations while waiting for cooldowns or allies to come up while turning deadly enemies into nice sources of damage.

Her last skill is Summer Embers.

Pyrele ignites a flame on herself and any nearby player that damages and keeps enemies away for a short duration, while regenerating health.

Her more straightforward source of support and sustain, gives a ton of survivability and can also be used to scale up DPS while tackling large crowds.

Pyrele's classic weakness of physical fragility is still present as both her maximum health and basic attack are the lowest among all characters, but she can make good use of her skills to keep herself and her allies alive.
